SimPleShip
SimPleShip stands for „Simulation Platform for Efficient Ship Operation”.
Within the SimPleShip research project, FVTR developed a digital simulation platform for the thermodynamic analysis and energy optimization of complex ship systems. The project established a physics-based digital twin approach that integrated propulsion systems, energy generation and storage technologies, auxiliary systems, and passenger vessel hotel loads into a holistic simulation environment.
The platform enabled the evaluation of energy efficiency measures, emission reduction strategies, retrofit concepts, and future operating scenarios, including zero-emission operations, thereby creating the foundation for FVTR’s simulation-based consulting and optimization services.
Hydrodynamic Ship Interface
As part of the development of maretwin, FVTR provides a professional interface to the hydrodynamic ship model developed by ISSIMS GmbH.
By integrating fast-time maneuvering simulation, realistic predictions of vessel motion and operational behavior under a wide range of navigation and maneuvering scenarios are enabled. The resulting maneuver-specific load profiles capture the dynamic interaction between ship operation and energy demand, providing essential boundary conditions for maritime energy twin applications. This approach enables the realistic representation of operational scenarios and supports the analysis, optimization, and validation of complex ship energy systems, thereby creating a reliable foundation for FVTR’s simulation-based consulting and optimization services.
TransHyDE CAMPFIRE
FVTR developed a system-level simulation model for an ammonia cracker–gas engine–battery hybrid system within the TransHyDE Campfire project.
The model was used to analyse the interactions between fuel preparation, gas engine operation and battery integration under realistic maritime operating scenarios, such as inland vessel applications.
The simulations demonstrated that appropriate battery sizing and energy management are essential to enables the cracker-engine system to remain within technically feasible operating ranges, absorbs excess power during low-load phases and ensure robust system operation.
